Rooted & Refined began with a home that had a strong foundation but didn’t yet feel fully connected to the family who had moved into it. After relocating from Chicago to Arizona, they wanted the house to feel warmer, more personal, and more reflective of the way they live now.

Rather than starting over, I focused on the places where thoughtful changes could make the biggest difference. In the main living spaces, we introduced custom millwork, architectural detailing, new lighting, window treatments, and layered furnishings to give the home more depth and character. The fireplace and surrounding cabinetry were reworked to create a stronger focal point, while the kitchen was refreshed with updated cabinetry, lighting, and a new island that better suited the space.

Smaller areas became opportunities to add personality. A color-drenched hall bath, a darker stair runner, picture molding, collected artwork, and subtle touches of color helped move the home away from feeling overly neutral or expected without making it feel disconnected from the existing architecture.

Throughout the project, the goal was to work with what was already worth keeping and be intentional about where we invested in change. The finished home feels layered, comfortable, and established—a reflection of where this family has been, where they are now, and the life they’re building here.
